For nearly 30 years, we, a Christian fellowship, have been confronted by the efforts of Mr. D.I. F. Griess to drag our group’s reputation through the mud by slanderous allegations which have been proved to be untrue.
The statements Mr. Griess has made about “Smith’s Friends” are in glaring conflict with the opinions of virtually the entire world of professional experts. Mr. Griess is in no way a trained expert, he is not a recognized specialist who is in a position to inform the public objectively in a serious and impartial manner about religious groups and their possible dangers.
The circulation of his untruths has been legally prohibited numerous times. Nevertheless, for years he has been unceaselessly flooding the authorities, life-philosophy offices, newspaper editorial staffs, and individual people – both at home and abroad – with his “circulars” and his volumes of papers.
Because of his false accusations, Mr. Griess was obliged to covenant in various legal proceedings before the Commercial Court in Vienna that he would cease his untruthful allegations about the “Norwegians”, at the risk of being fined
In the final ruling against Griess of April 8th, 2009, on page 3 under point 4, the court requires Mr. Griess to publish the following on his own website:
“The defendant is obliged to publish Points 1 and 2 of this ruling as well as points 1.2 and 1.2 of the partial ruling of the Supreme Court of August 11th, 2005, 4 Ob 146/05g, with a bold heading and a bold border, as well as the names of the parties in the proceedings with a bold and spaced font, on the Internet address http://griess.st1.at under the link “Smiths Freunde”.”
